Map Of Jerusalem In Present

The city of Jerusalem has been going through a massive development over the years, a development that has only increased since the year of 1967 and the unification of the city under the Israeli rule.

Modern Jerusalem is not just an old city for tourists and site-seeing – It’s the largest city in Israel and it maintains the major governmental buildings and monuments as well.

The landscape and skyline of the Jerusalem is rapidly changing, leaving the old maps useful for history classes only.

So, what has changed in Jerusalem, what are the main parts of the city and how to get a present day map of the city? That’s what we will be discussing in this post.

Transportation Reform

Jerusalem has recently recovered from an over ten years old public transportation reform, that made the way people (and tourists included) travel through the city totally different.

Previously, the city mass transit was totally based on bus lines that would cover the entire city.

Today, a new light train was build crossing the city from south-west, through the city center, the old city and following to the northern neighborhoods.

If you plan to travel Jerusalem without a car (recommended due to traffic and parking problems) you’ll be probably using the light train pretty often.

New Neighborhoods

Jerusalem has many neighborhoods that are used for living, business and recreation, but if you came for touring the city, there’s no need for you to get exposed to them.

The new neighborhoods, Gilo, Ramot and many others, have great importance in how the city looks and functions – but it will be a total waste of time for you to include them In your map of Jerusalem new city.

What Map Do You Need?

Unless you’re arriving at the city for business matters or for buying a home, the map you’ll need of Jerusalem will be a map of the old city only.

The map is still changing every year due to changes in the whole city, but you don’t need to buy a huge map of the entire city that will just confuse you.

The best place to look for a map will be at a Jerusalem gift shop, that can be easily found in every second corner of the city.
